Where Should Motion Sensors Be Installed in a Home?

Plan around movement paths, household habits and practical testing.

Start with an area you want to check

A passage, entrance, stair landing or room may be a useful place for a motion sensor. First decide why you want to watch it. Explain which areas should be empty while you are away and which stay busy. We can then check whether a suitable sensor position is available.

Plan around family members and pets

Tell us who uses the area, including pets. A motion sensor notices movement; it does not know whether someone is a burglar. Some everyday movement can cause unwanted alerts. We plan the position and available settings with this in mind, but we do not promise that every sensor will ignore pets.

Walk through the area during testing

After fitting, walk along the paths you want the sensor to cover. Check whether the event appears as expected and whether any chosen light or alarm responds. A product description cannot replace this test in your home. Test again if you move large furniture or change how the room is used.

Learn when to turn alerts on and off

The right settings help you use the system without constant unwanted messages. Ask how to arm and disarm it and how to change the available alerts. If you want movement to turn on a light, we must first check that the light, sensor and app support that action together.
